SW GREAT DANE CLUB LEAGUE FINALS Nov 8 2008

What a thrill to be asked to judge at the SWGDC’s Super League’s famous competition & what a task keeping the appointment secret for over 12 months.

I had a wonderful time and was treated to a selection of Danes in top form creating an interesting & at times, challenging task.

Premier League - Dogs

1. Arondyke Absent Minded, stood away, what a thrilling dog with proud carriage, size and substance with a touch of elegance, long lean head with expression, arched muscular neck, strong topline, tall with angles & excellent boning, no surprise therefore that combined with a touch of charisma he moved soundly & purposefully into top spot. Later against the bitch had the edge on outline & angles.

2. Tyak Captain Pugwash, more moderate with super angles, excellent head, long neck, firm in topline, displayed excellent side gait & carriage on the move.

3. Preveli the Brotherhood.

Bitches

1. Ch Merribox Love Struck, with amazing attitude & the ability to strike a pose this blond bombshell made an impact the moment she entered the ring, powerful with size & substance she powers around the ring, a picture of strength and style. Had the edge over some lovely youngsters, oblivious to the unusual surroundings she quite literally demanded the top spot.

2. Garsak to Die For, more elegant and stylish than 1 but not showing her attributes to their full potential, lovely feminine head & expression, refined but remaining substantial, well boned. She only needs maturity in body to complete a picture, full of potential for a great future.

3. Garsak Lady Grace.

Super League - Dogs

1 Ch Semelda Has to be of Marridane, with a great character & style he managed to win over some tough competition with his size & substance & a definitive head & expression, his proportions & fabulous rear gave movement with strength & with an exceptional side gait & carriage. Could be stronger in the pastern, but with such quality & a stallion outlook, he had the edge to win today.

2. Ch Samdice Dream On, similar type & with many of the same attributes this handsome male created a stunning picture standing, although very sound & powerful he did not use himself with the same charisma on the move as 1 hence this narrow defeat.

Bitches

1 Semelda She Looks to Me through Samdice, exuding quality & type was my first reaction on seeing her enter the ring, she really is fabulous with the most beautiful head & expression with correct balance & stunning eye, long crested muscular neck onto the best of front assemblies with forechest & return & length of upper arm, strongly boned throughout & with deep cushioned feet, perfect rear assembly with great width & musculature combined with short strong straight hocks, these perfectly balanced angles unsurprisingly gave purposeful, powerful movement which was sound stylish & displayed excellent reach & drive. For perfect harmony she could be a fraction shorter, but this creates no weakness as a result of a long deep ribcage & strong short loin. She is quite lovely her many outstanding features gave her this strong class of bitches but also saw her victorious over the Super League male.

2. Ch Garsak Name of the Game, taller bitch with great proportion, feminine & classy, moderately angled moving soundly & with carriage.
