2008 League Final’s Judge
Mike Gadsby profile.
Mike Gadsby’s involvement with purebred dogs began as a teenager in the shape of a part-time job at a famous Pyrenean Mt. Dog kennel.
This led him to the world of
dog shows where he quickly developed a knack of handling and an interest in the
American Cocker Spaniel, the breed which he has been associated with ever
since.
Mike’s first Champion was
from his first litter, Ch. Afterglow Sultan Of Swing became the starting point
in an impressive list of some 75+ UK Champions across a variety of breeds, as
well as numerous Champions and Best in Show winners worldwide.
Mike has owned or bred 10
different UK All Breed BIS winners, including two American Cockers who became
Top Dog All Breeds.
Notable winners in other
breeds include the Afghan bitch “Ch. Conquistador” and homebred Standard Poodle
“Ch. Afterglow The Big Tease”, both BIS winners and the latter a previous Best
of Breed winner at the prestigious Poodle Club of America.
Mike’s Afterglow prefix is also
closely associated with the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen breed: Ch. Afterglow
Woody Woodpecker was a BIS winner in the UK and US, and a former Top Hound in
America.
Mike’s dedication and passion
to the world of purebred dogs runs deep. He believes that in order to be
successful in the show ring, the mental and physical conditioning of the animal
is crucial. His dogs can often be seen running free in the local fields
surrounding his home and on the beach.
He approaches each judging assignment with the eye of not only a handler but of a stockman who understands the form and function of the animal.
