Docking Legislation affects

NON DOCKED BREEDS

Regarding the recent directive from the KC amending KC Regulations following the introduction of the Docking Legislation.  This applies to ALL  BREEDS even if dogs have their tails docked or amputated as a result of trauma.

In summary:   Any dog with a tail docked after the 7th April 2007 in England (28th March in Wales) comes under the same ruling as docked breeds.  Which means that they cannot be shown at a show where the public are charged admittance fees.   This rule does not apply in Scotland and Northern Ireland.  The KC has advised that this also includes dogs of any breed with tails docked as a result of trauma.

I have spoken to Caroline Kisko who agrees that this rule is completely crazy.   All the KC regulations have done is to follow the law of the land, which quite ridiculously states that a dog with a docked or amputated tail, may not be shown at any show where the public pay to attend, including Crufts.   The KC argued long and hard with DEFRA about this because it is so illogical – particularly if the amputation is  due to trauma, but Caroline advises me that they wouldn’t budge.

This means that a dog, which has had to have a tail docked as a result of trauma, can enter Breed Champion Shows where there is no admittance fee to the public.  They can qualify for Crufts; obtain their Stud Book number; can be made up to Champions – but they will NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER CRUFTS.

In discussion with Caroline, she recommends that everyone who is concerned with this policy should write to her and has suggested that the wording should include that the request for changing this policy is from owners of NON DOCKED BREEDS who have no reason to get around the docking law and are seeking permission to show dogs at ALL shows following the need for amputation or partial docking if recommended by a veterinary surgeon for the health and well being of the animal as a result of trauma.

The more support the KC get from individuals; breed clubs; breed councils; KCLC; the dog press; MPs etc will make DEFRA see how ridiculous the overall policy is.

This does apply to ALL  BREEDS

So please do as is suggested and write to Caroline Sisko

It is also likely to be an issue that will be discussed by the Breed Council so please also make your feelings known to your BC representative    Ed.
